Green Lantern Review

With these kinda bad reviews for a superhero movie, you'd expect it to be just one of those stupid summer action films, but shockingly enough, it's not that bad. It get's the story across well, the acting ain't half bad, and the ending action scene is actually very enjoyable. I think the most unique thing about this movie is getting annoying cliches a new twist to make the movie way more enjoyable. There are two scenes that stand out to me that do this to there full potential. The first one is when the friend of Hal Jordan wants to see him in the Green Lantern costume, Hal poses in a weird pose, expecting it to work, but it doesn't. Now, I kinda figured that the cliche was Hal never was allowed to tell anyone he was the Green Lantern, as it would reveal the goal of the Green Lantern corps and would put them in danger, or something like that. But turns out, the ring only needed charging, and there we go, Green Lantern. The other scene I really liked was when Hal's girlfriend recognizes Hal under the mask, saying it wasn't much of a disguise. It just avoided the Superman cliche right then and there, which was a refreshing twist. But, with all good things, there has to be bad, and this has a lot of bad things about it. The worst is Hal's son. He seemed like an important character, as he was the son of a future superhero, but nope, 20 minutes in, and you never see him again. Another horrible thing was the special effects, especially the last fight scene, even though that scene was the best in the movie. It almost always looked computer generated, and everyone who reads my reviews knows how much I hate computer generated images in movies. Sure, they like nice when they're scenic and subtle, but these special effects are right up in your face. The other major flaw that almost ruined the movie for me was when Hal was transported to the guy that crashed his space ship, it's really cliched and rushed, as they should have did it better. The movie is pretty cliched as well, but it's not horribly annoying, just stupid. Even though this movie has plenty of flaws, it's still a very fun popcorn film. It's flawed, but enjoyable and action packed. Do I recommend it? Well, only if you read the comics or just want an average superhero flick. Everyone else, it might not be the movie for you.
